Metro de Madrid’s External Relations Office organizes a visit programme which gives 2nd,
3rd and 4th year primary school pupils the opportunity to discover our installations on line 8 and
line 12 (MetroSur).
These visits, which are aimed at all schools in the Madrid region, take place during school
hours every Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday on line 8 and every Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday on line 12 (MetroSur), the timetable in both cases being 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
The maximum number of pupils admitted in each visit is 30.
The Line 8 school visit begins at one of the entrances to Nuevos Ministerios station (Paseo
de la Castellana nº 110, near the corner of c/ Joaquín Costa) and consists of a round trip to
Aeropuerto T-4 station.
A series 8000 train without passengers is used for the outward journey, which allows the
schoolchildren to enter the driver’s cab in groups, where they are given explanations about
various aspects related to train driving.
On reaching the last station, Aeropuerto T-4, the train lets other passengers on board and
sets off on the return journey, during which the children carry out various fun learning
activities.
On returning to Nuevos Ministerios, the visitors are taken to the Transport Interpretation
Centre, which is located inside the station, to see the exhibition and an audiovisual about the
Madrid metro network.
At the end of the visit, all the children are given a soft drink and presented with a
gift.
The line 12 (MetroSur) visit begins at the Puerta del Sur station entrance situated between
Avenida de la Libertad and Avenida de Leganés.
Inside the station, the schoolchildren are taken to the T.I.C., where they are shown around
and told how this operation control centre works.
Then the visitors are taken down to the platform, where they board a series 8000 train with
passengers heading toward Loranca.
During the journey, they are allowed to enter the driver cab in groups.
The journey from Puerta del Sur to Loranca consists of 10 stations and takes approximately 20
minutes.
After arriving at Loranca station, the pupils leave the Metro installations through the
Avenida Pablo Iglesias exit, where the coach will be waiting to take them from there to the Loranca
engine sheds.
After a brief tour of the Loranca engine shed installations, the schoolchildren are taken to
a classroom where they are shown a documentary about the history and evolution of the Madrid metro
network.
At the end of the visit, all the children are given a soft drink and presented with a gift.
During the course of both visits, the schoolchildren are accompanied by personnel belonging
to the Metro de Madrid’s External Relations Office and a group of coordinators in order to
inculcate the correct use of our installations in an entertaining and participative way.
