The Christmas toy collection campaign started on 22 December last. The toys will be distributed amongst children in hospital in the Community. Collection takes place at Nuevos Ministerios metro station. Toys may be deposited until 3 January, both in the morning and afternoon
The Christmas toy collection campaign, run by Metro de Madrid and Fundación Atlético de Madrid,
which started on 22 December last, has succeeded in collecting over 2200 toys, which will be
distributed amongst children spending these days at different hospitals in the Community of Madrid.
Until 3 January Madrilenians will be able to go on leaving toys that are new or in good condition
at a collection point set up in the main concourse of Nuevos Ministerios Station.
Metro and Atlético de Madrid had the idea of implementing this initiative in order to
brighten these children’s stay in hospital as far as possible. We should underline the acceptance
it has received amongst Metro users, who so far have left 2237 toys, while we should also make
special mention of the donation of 152 toys by Editorial Langescheidt .
Both entities, which have already offered their cooperation on other occasions in sporting
events, especially those aimed at young children, have decided to combine forces again and to
cooperate in this cause, as the high number of Metro users (close on two million a day) may make
this initiative a success, as has in fact been happening.
On 3 January the toys collected will be taken to Fundación del Atlético de Madrid and from
there they will be distributed, depending on the quantity, to the different hospitals in the
region. Users may deposit the toys in the mornings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in the afternoons
from 4-8 p.m., except on 31 December, which will only be attended in the morning, and 1 January,
when there will be no collection due to their being public holidays.
Nuevos Ministerios Station has a collection point set up opposite the turnstiles in the main
concourse, where two stands have been installed, attended by staff responsible for collection. The
intention of Metro de Madrid with this initiative, which is run jointly with Fundación del Atlético
de Madrid, is to become a channel for publicizing and making all Madrilenians more familiar with
such social initiatives and projects. With the organization of the different activities proposed,
our aim is to bring support, commitment and future to those most in need.
