Metro brings together the world’s finest Indoor Trials riders
Deputy Regional Minister for Sports, Javier Hernández, presented the 21st Comunidad de Madrid Indoor Trials, accompanied by rider Toni Bou. This qualifies for earning points towards the Championship of Spain and is due to take place in the Palacio de Deportes on 13 March. Madrid rider Alfredo Gómez will compete in this trial thanks to a wildcard entry which the organisers have given him. For the second year running the Repsol Honda MotoGP team has chosen this event to present its new motorbike.
Deputy Regional Minister for Sports, Javier Hernández, accompanied by Metro de Madrid CEO Ignacio
González Velayos today presented the 21st Comunidad de Madrid Indoor Trials, which will take place
next Saturday, on 13 March, in the Palacio de los Deportes from 19.30 hours onwards. Hernández was
accompanied at the presentation by Repsol Montesa-Honda rider Toni Bou, three times World Champion
and current leader in the overall standings in this category.
Bou surprised those in attendance with some acrobatics astride his Montesa Cota 4rt. The
Repsol rider won these trails for the last two years and will share the billings next Saturday with
fellow riders Albert Cabestany, currently in second place in the overall standings, and Bou’s
chief rival for the title, Adam Raga, four times world champion, Jeroni Fajardo, James Dabill,
Takahisa Fujinami, Loris Gubian and Aexz Wigg.
Besides this, for the second year running Madrid rider Alfredo Gómez will take part, having
been invited by the organisers on a wildcard ticket. The Cercedilla rider will bid to qualify in
the first round so as to be able to take on the best riders in the world in what is a great chance
provided by the event’s organisers.
Madrid could be decisive in the race for the title
The Madrid event will be more keenly contested than ever, as Albert Cabestany, the current world
championship runner-up, and Toni Bou, currently defending the title, come to Madrid with only 5
points separating them in the overall standings. Both riders have put up a great fight for the
title in the three World Championship trials to date.
British city Sheffield saw the start of the indoor championship and Bou emerged victorious as
he began his defence of the world title won in 2009. The second trial, held in Marseilles, went to
Cabestany, while in the third event in Barcelona victory was once again Toni Bou’s, followed
by Albert Cabestany. It will also be interesting to see how the duel turns out between these two
riders and four times world indoor champion Adam Raga.
Madrid will be the second Spanish city to host trials where points count towards the 2010
World Indoor Trials Championships, following the trip to Barcelona. The world championships will be
decided in Palma, Majorca, which will host trials in this discipline for the first time in their
history.
The Comunidad de Madrid Indoor Trials will this year include the novel idea of restoring
bygone features and include zones comprising natural elements such as large rocks, tree-trunks and
railway sleepers, which will make the competition more technical and spectacular than ever.
For the second year running Repsol Honda Moto GP’s official team has chosen the
Comunidad de Madrid indoor trials to present the new motorbike that they will use in the 2010 World
Championships due to start on 11 April in Qatar and end on 7 November on Valencia’s Cheste
circuit.
Both Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, the two official Repsol-Honda MotoGP team riders,
will be present on 13 March in the Palacio de los Deportes of the Comunidad de Madrid to unveil the
features and chief novelties of the Honda RC212V, which has evolved in terms of nearly all of its
components and will be the motorbike used by both riders to compete in the 2010 World
Championships.
