The light metro units are the so-called "Citadis" type. These modular vehicles, built by Alstom, allow various options. Metro de Madrid has chosen an articulated unit with five bodies.
The overhead power cable voltage is 750 V dc, which is standard in the majority of Metro
Ligero and tram systems all around the world.
These units are equipped with several systems that facilitate the access of persons with
different types of disabilities:
• Retractable ramps for wheelchair access on the door closest to the driver's cabin for
each direction.
• All the doors with ramps open automatically and the ramp drops down.
• Space reserved for wheelchairs, signposted and with safety belt.
• Automatic opening, in all cases, of the other doors of the first carriage, to facilitate access to persons with impaired vision.
• Optical and acoustic signals indicating that the doors are open, to facilitate their location for persons with impaired vision.
• Contrasting colours on all doors compared to the surrounding body of the carriages.
• Contrasting colours in interiors (doors, seats, etc.).
