The successive expansions carried out in the Metro de Madrid network have attracted interest in the company from many organisations, administrations and companies all over the world that represent the different financial, construction, railway and technology sectors involved in the process.
Metro de Madrid has become an international leader with respect to capacity, knowledge and the application of new technology, as well as in the field of advanced methods for the organisation, construction and introduction of new lines.
Proof of this is the fact that Metro de Madrid continues to participate in the meetings of a number of organisations, and especially the IUPT (International Union of Public Transport), as well as collaborating on different Committees and Subcommittees of the Asamblea de Metros (Metro Rail Assembly).
Likewise, with reference to the IUPT, in 2006 Metro de Madrid has attended, for example, several meetings of the Board of Directors (Helsinki), the Asamblea de Metros (St. Petersburg in June and Santiago de Chile in November), or the Marketing Commission (Madrid in February and Lisbon in September).
With reference to ALAMYS (Latin American Metro and Subway Association), Metro de Madrid attended the interim meeting held in Alicante in May 2006, as well as the 20th Assembly, which took place in Buenos Aires (Argentina) last November.
Metro de Madrid belongs to the international benchmarking group COMET (Community of Metros), whose aim is to find out and compare the best practices and business indicators of the world’s leading Metro companies, in order to detect areas of improvement. The group comprises the world’s main Metro networks: Madrid, London, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, Berlin, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow, Mexico City, Shanghai and Santiago de Chile.
We also have two representatives on the Trustee Board of the Spanish Railway Foundation, and
they also participate in different meetings of the Board, as well as attending the meetings of the
Rail Action Association,(CETREN).
As regards the ATUC (Asociación de Transporte Urbano Colectivo, Collective Urban Transport Association), the
Metro is both a member of the association and of its Executive Committee, attending a number of
meetings of both the Executive Committee and several others.
