The enlargement of the public transport system is being undertaken by the Autonomous Community of Madrid as part of a long-term strategy. At present there continues to be a strong commitment to the Metro, a traditional means of transport that reached Madrid over 90 years ago and continues to maintain its original advantages of safety, speed, reliability and comfort and which, with the adaptations and improvements accompanying technological advance, has become a key feature of the everyday life of the citizens.
