Cirque du Soleil joins the Madrid Autonomous Community to support public transport

Cavero has presented today a video to promote Madrid transport with artists from the Kooza show. The Canadian company has acquired 160 transport cards for the Kooza employees during their stay in Madrid. More than 500,000 people in Madrid are users of the new contact-free card implemented less than a year ago

Cirque du Soleil, which is now in Madrid doing their Kooza show, has cooperated with the Madrid Autonomous Community in promoting public transport and has recorded an advertising campaign for the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid, to encourage all people in Madrid to use public transport, as this Canadian company supports sustainable mobility as part of its policy.

The Regional Minister for Transport, Infrastructures and Housing, Pablo Cavero, explained during the presentation of this advertising campaign that Cirque du Soleil also acquired 160 transport cards so that all the employees of the show performed now in Madrid may use public transport for their daily journeys.

For this purpose, Mr Cavero pointed out, "the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid has implemented a special mechanism to process the new card for large groups quicker, a system that is being used for large groups which makes Madrid a chosen destination for business, studying and tourism".

During the event, the Regional Minister delivered the new contact-free cards to Genevieve Deslandes, Kooza tour director, whose artists made a performance at the Moncloa transfer station. "This renowned international company has joined the Madrid Autonomous Community in promoting the best public transport in the world and in encouraging all people in Madrid to use for their travels the Metro and bus network in our region, as already 500,000 users of the contact-free card are doing".

The spot shot by Cirque du Soleil may be seen in the entire transport network managed by the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid, which has also made a leaflet, available online, to indicate the different public transport alternatives to reach the tent in Puerta del Ángel, where the Kooza show is performed.

Transport for big events

Cavero acknowledged how important the quality of the Madrid public transport is for the region to be chosen for big events and shows, as in the case of Cirque du Soleil, and how easy it is to have a ticket system that includes all forms of transport. "Also, the Regional Manager added, the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid coordinates reinforcement arrangements for public transport for special events, such as the bus and metro lines which provide service to the large Kooza tent of Cirque du soleil during their stay in Madrid".

Such actions, as those previously taken for other sports and cultural events, such as the Champions League final, Rock in Rio, the WYD or the recent World Handball Championship, are also proof of the suitability of the Madrid bid for the 2020 Olympic Games and the capacity of the capital city to organise the Olympic Games. "It is clear, the Regional Minister concluded, that Madrid is also ready in transport to hold any event and is increasingly acknowledged by international entities and companies, such as Cirque du Soleil".
