The Community of Madrid extends the service hours of Pitis Metro Station

Gonzalo visits this Underground station, which will be adopting the new operating hours as from 1 May. The last train will depart from the station at 1.35 a.m. and the facilities will close after the arrival of the last convoy from Estadio Metropolitanoo at 2.15 a.m. The measure will result in a notable improvement in the public transport service provided in this area. Pitis is also included in the Ministry of Development Cercanías Plan, which will assign over 5000 million euro to improving the network in the region.

The Regional Secretary of Transport, Housing and Infrastructure, Rosalía Gonzalo, announced today the extension of the operating hours of Metro Madrid Pitis Station (Line 7A), so that it will be brought into line with the rest of the stations in the network as from 1 May. In this way, the departure of the last train from this station will take place at 1.35 a.m. and the station facilities will be closed at approximately 2.15 a.m. after the arrival of the last train from Estadio Metropolitano.

At present, Pitis Station closes at 10 p.m., so that from that time on the Line 7A terminus is transferred to Lacoma Station. When the extension of the operating hours comes into effect, Pitis will become the line terminal station throughout the whole time passenger service is in operation.

During her visit, the Regional Secretary was anxious to underline the advantages offered to users by the extension of service hours at this station, as they will be assisted in making their journeys and be able to transfer to Cercanías and various bus lines. This measure is largely the result of the considerable urban development that has taken place around the station, with several housing complexes completed and others in the course of construction, with an estimated over 1200 new dwellings.

The Secretary laid emphasis on the improvements that are going to be carried out at this station forming part of the Cercanías Plan for Madrid, which was presented recently by the Ministry of Development. In this specific case, over 1.5 million euro is going to be allocated to the remodelling of ticket halls, buildings and facilities in the part of Pitis Station given over to Cercanías, as well as enlargement of its car parking capacity.

Gonzalo emphasized the effort being made by Central Government to implement a Plan envisaging the investment of more than 5000 million euro in the integrated improvement of the Cercanías network, with specific actions that just in the next two years are going to involve an expenditure of 580 million euro.

Notable amongst the main measures of this Plan are the extension of several lines, such as the C-4 and C-5, the building of four new stations, and the overall or partial remodelling of another 84. In addition, the Ministry of Development has also scheduled the building of a new transverse axis to link up the Henares Corridor with Leganés without the need to pass through Atocha and Chamartín.

This Plan has enjoyed the cooperation of the Community of Madrid, which has been working since last October, alongside the heads of the Ministry, in order to define the improvement needs and put across the claims of the local councils affected.
