Leader as transport operator

Metro de Madrid is Spain’s leading metropolitan operating company and a reference metro at the international level because of the growth in its network, its service quality and its innovation and technological capacity.

More than 100 years of history, Metro de Madrid runs one of the world’s largest underground networks, ranking number one in the world in terms of number of stations per inhabitant and number of network kilometres per inhabitant.

Regarding vertical transport, the large number of escalators and elevators in Metro de Madrid’s facilities makes it one of the world’s most accessible network in the world.

Leader in the management and integration of new line construction projects

Metro de Madrid has in recent years implemented the most ambitious Expansion Programme in its entire history and the largest known worldwide, in four successive plans (1995-1999, 1999-2003, 2003-2007 and 2007-2011), taking on the rail integration tasks for the planning, design, construction, implementation and operation of a total of 172 new kilometres of network, 132 stations and 7 depots, and the design and commissioning of 795 new cars. Metro de Madrid’s expansions have been widely recognised throughout the world, used as reference by the World Bank, the European Investment Bank or the International Olympic Committee, as significantly more efficient in terms of costs and deadlines than expansions in other world metros.
