100 years of history and an unforgettable visit
For the first time in its history, Metro de Madrid opens its doors to the basements of the Engine Shed in Pacífico (calle Valderribas, 49). Grasp this unique opportunity to discover one of the best-kept secrets of the Madrid underground, by reserving your place to take part in a free guided tour around this special location until 15 July.
Get to know the “entrails” of the Engine Shed, through a maze of passages that will lead you where the impressive boat engines that provided power to Metro de Madrid were housed. Old work tools and explanatory videos will allow you understand the history of this unique site a little better.
This tour forms part of the “100 years of Metro” exhibition, also located in the Engine Shed, where the Madrid underground takes us on a tour of the past, present and future of the company.
This way you can now discover the origins of the company, Metro de Madrid’s ties with culture and with the history of the city, the milestones in innovation that marked an era, and even the technology of the future where you can see what the “station of the future” will look like. Photographs, infographics, historical artefacts and audiovisual screenings will all help you capture a global vision of the company and its evolution over time.
This free exhibition does not require a booking. Opening times are from 17:00 to 21:00 from Monday to Friday and 12:00 a 21:00 on Saturday and Sunday; this also runs until 15 July.
