Metro de Madrid is an underground city with 294 kilometres of network and 302 stations that receive more than 2.5 million passengers every day, so imagine how many surprising and unexpected stories happen throughout the day! More than 7,000 employees work here, and thanks to their courage and quick response, many can have a happy ending.
Each year, Metro recognises the work of all those who go above and beyond and make an exceptional effort without a second thought to help users. Some even go outside the network to get to where they are needed, as is the case of the Metro volunteers who went to Valencia to carry out pumping and recovery work in the area affected by the flooding.
But there are also many volunteers who try to make the network a warmer and more humane place where everyone feels welcome.
Metro de Madrid wanted to pay tribute to 48 employees this year: 17 professionals, 16 security guards and inspectors from security companies and three officers from the Spanish Police Force, in addition to the volunteers, whose actions on the network have made it possible to save lives thanks to their medical care, protect passengers from attackers and prevent damage to Metro equipment.
