New smart turnstiles

Bright, spacious and futuristic: these are the new Metro turnstiles

Already 220 new smart turnstiles have been installed and another 185 will be added before the end of the year

We’re sure you've already passed through some of the 220 new smart turnstiles we have spread across 23 stations, and there will be another 185 by the end of the year.

These new devices take up less space, have a more intuitive interface and feature an information screen that displays graphics and text on the validation of tickets. They also have acoustic warnings and LED lighting both on the doors and on the floor, which significantly improves accessibility and passenger information, thus raising the quality of the service.

With these figures, Metro has already exceeded 50% of the first phase of its technological transformation plan for stations, which includes the implementation of these latest generation turnstiles. The installations will continue throughout the year, especially on Line 6, taking advantage of the track superstructure works that began last May.

This project is part of the EU-funded Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – NextGenerationEU and will be followed by a second phase to extend the Station 4.0 model to the entire network. At the end of this phase, the total number of new turnstiles installed will reach 268. This phase will be co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF Operational Plan 2021-2027 of the Community of Madrid.
