We recently informed you that the first driverless train, intended for Metro Line 6, was already undergoing test runs in the town of Corrella (Navarre). Well, much closer to home, at the Villaverde depot, staff training in preparation for the forthcoming automation has begun. 

The new centre is a testing facility based on advanced technology that replicates conditions similar to those encountered in actual operation. And the crown jewel is the replica simulator, identical to the one used for the trains currently being built in Navarre. The fact is that, although these trains run in automatic mode and do not have a driver’s cab as such, they do have a small control console which Metro staff can use if necessary. 

At this newly opened training facility, around 120 Metro staff will be able to practise in real-life situations, combining immersive driving environments with railway operations and management scenarios. 
 

 The fact is that the future of the Metro is being built not only by incorporating technology, but also by training the people who will make it a reality.
