One hundred years of Metro de Madrid's liner engines

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the commissioning of the Nave de Motores de Pacífico

Did you know that the three diesel engines of the Nave de Pacífico were started in the presence of Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg? In June 1924, the King and Queen attended the official ceremony at which the engines, very similar to those used on transatlantic ships, began to operate simultaneously.

Today, the ship has become a museum that can be visited. All you have to do is sign up for the visits through museosmetromadrid.es. This way, you will have the opportunity to take a tour of this unique Metro site, designed by the architect Antonio Palacios.

The building stands out for the clarity of its conception, attention to detail and good execution. As a curiosity, it has an electric bridge crane from one end of the ship to the other.

As for the engines it houses, they are 4,500 horsepower and could run at full load within five minutes of activation. They could be used to generate and transform the energy used to run the trains.
