The Command Post, an international benchmark
Metro de Madrid's Command Post is the point that concentrates most of these visits, although the Canillejas Central Workshops are also worth mentioning. Why the Command Post? Above all for offering a detailed and very graphic view of how we organise the complex train service that runs every day in Metro, how we manage the 300 stations and 300 kilometres of track in our network in real time, thanks to the latest remote control technology, and for other strategic factors such as the control and guarantee of the electricity supply, the resolution of incidents and safety, to name just a few.
All our protocols are backed by years of experience and reliability, which makes other operators want to learn from them to develop or improve the operational performance of their transport systems. It is worth highlighting that during the first half of 2024, the number of representatives from other countries and regions who have visited the Madrid mobility system has reached 35, 53% more than in the same period of the previous year, with the Metro facilities being one of the key points of their visits. In total, the Community of Madrid welcomed 73 national and international delegations interested in the operation of our systems in 2023.
There has recently been a remarkable visit from a major North American city, with one of the largest and most complex transport systems on the planet: New York. In this case, the Deputy Mayor of New York, Meera Joshi, accompanied by the Regional Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, visited the Metro Command Post in an exchange of experiences in which it became clear that "Madrid is a global flagship in the field of public transport".
The Central Operations Room visited by the New York representative has a surface area of 500 square metres and includes the Traffic Control, Station Facilities, Energy, Civil Protection and Security, Centralised Passenger Information and Operations areas.
