The Quevedo – Cuatro Caminos section is celebrating its anniversary

95th anniversary of the northern extension of line 2

1929 was a difficult year due to the severe global economic crisis that led to the famous crash of the New York Stock Exchange on 24 October.

However, barely a month and a half before this anniversary, to be precise, on 10 September, Metro de Madrid opened the Quevedo – Cuatro Caminos section. With a total length of 1,463 metres and without any intermediate station, it extended line 2 northwards and linked lines 1 and 2 at Cuatro Caminos station.

This extension was a milestone because it made it possible to move underground trains from one line to another, according to traffic needs.

In addition, the two maintenance workshops at Cuatro Caminos and Ventas were centralised into one.

The work was completed in 14 months.
