The Community of Madrid donates 5000 Metro tickets to Mensajeros de la Paz to assist in the care of people with scant resources
The Community of Madrid donates 5000 single tickets to the Messengers of Peace Foundation to assist in the care of people with scant economic resources, primarily users who go to the Foundation’s Food Bank. This is the substance of the cooperation agreement concluded this morning between Father Ángel, the President of the Messengers of Peace Foundation, and the Community of Madrid Secretary of Transport, Housing and Infrastructure, Pedro Rollán, who stressed “how important it is to facilitate mobility for people who have no economic resources whatsoever and hence the need for close cooperation between both institutions”.
This is a cooperation which last year facilitated the installation in the Metro network of charity machines for the collection of food items and the assignment of another 5000 tickets for distribution amongst people attending the Foundation in Madrid. The transport passes made over are single Fare Zone A tickets, which are intended for users of the Madrid Charity Food Bank. Thanks to this Bank, care is offered to families severely affected by the crisis through provision of foodstuffs and hygiene products, payment of domestic utilities, rent assistance or pharmacy expenses.
This social project covers the Inner City Area, Villaverde Alto and Vallecas-El Pozo del Tío Raimundo. The tickets will be distributed amongst users of Madrid family and children’s charity canteens, located at different points in the Community of Madrid, as well as beneficiaries of other projects that have a recognized need for assistance to cover their basic necessities, as is the case of homeless people who are cared for by way of San Antón Church. In all, the Messengers of Peace Foundation provides assistance to 4800 people.
METRO SOCIAL LINE
This agreement signed by both institutions forms part of the Madrid Underground Social Line, which sets out to improve the social environment in which it operates and in this way attempts to provide ongoing cooperation with NGOs and other bodies. Notable amongst the latest actions carried out was the recent campaign “En línea con quien más lo necesita (In line with whoever is most in need)”, which brought together a dozen NGOs.
Metro Madrid is eager to continue boosting its policy of Corporate Social Responsibility, focused on the development of the social line, which has the main strategic aim of endeavouring to alleviate as far as possible the hardships that may be faced in their daily lives by people at risk of social exclusion in the Community of Madrid. During last year 65 campaigns were conducted in conjunction with institutions of a social nature.
