Yet another year, Metro de Madrid’s Christmas Train extends Christmas greetings to its users

Metro de Madrid’s Christmas Train

Other activities and workshops will also be held in the underground’s museums during the Christmas season. This past Friday, passengers were pleasantly surprised by the 150 gifts that Metro had prepared for them

The Regional Government of Madrid has once again put the Christmas Train into operation in Metro de Madrid, that is, a train decorated as if its cars were enormous gifts wrapped for extending Christmas greetings to the more than 2.3 million Madrilenians who use the underground daily. The train will run throughout the Christmas season on Metro Line 6, the most frequented line in the network.

This year’s Christmas Train completed its first journey on Friday 21 December. The early risers who travelled on the first train in the morning found a total of 150 gifts placed on the seats. Users were greeted with merchandising products of the company which normally can be purchased in the Metro gift shop, such as mugs, notebooks, blankets, plush toys or magnets. This distribution of gifts will be repeated unannounced on other days during Christmas time.

OTHER CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES

In addition to this Christmas activity, Metro de Madrid has set in motion other holiday initiatives, also coinciding with its Centenary celebration, such as the children’s robotics activities which will be held at the Pacífico Engine Shed (C/Valderribas, 49) on 26, 27 and 28 December, from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.

On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, the visiting hours for this space have been extended, and it will open from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm, starting on 26 and through to 30 December and between 2 and 5 January.

Metro also proposes as a leisure time plan for Madrid citizens a visit to the exhibition set up in the Chamartín Station, which offers the possibility of observing two of Metro’s historic treasures: two classical trains restored to exactly how they were when they were operating in 1919 on the first Metro line.  Also, the exhibition will feature actors wearing costumes typical of those early years who will interact with visitors on 26, 27 and 28, between 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm. The exhibition will be open from 26 to 30 December and from 2 to 7 January from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, except for 6 January when it will remain closed. Starting from that week, it will continue on its normal schedule.

The Chamberí Station, known as the ‘ghost station’, will also have special opening hours, extending the visiting times. On 26, 27, 29 and 30 December and 2, 3 and 5 January, the station will open from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.  On 28 December and 4 January, the opening hours will be from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm.
