Section of line 2 of underground closed to public to be extended to Sol station
The section of line 2 of Metro de Madrid affected by the works being carried out by OHL has been extended by an additional stop, to Sol station, which will close its line 2 platforms from this Wednesday, 23 April, until 13 May, both inclusive, although lines 1 and 3 will remain operational at Sol station. Hence, the service will be suspended between Retiro and Ópera stations, with Banco de España and Sevilla stations remaining closed.
As from 14 May, once Sol station reopens on line 2, the service on the stretch between Sol and Retiro will remain closed to culminate the repair works.
This closure is necessary to carry out the next phase of the works to strengthen the tunnel between Sevilla and Sol due to the effects on this infrastructure caused by the works being carried out by the company OHL on the Canalejas complex in calle Alcalá.
In light of this situation, beyond the control of Metro de Madrid, and to alleviate the nuisance caused to passengers as far as possible, the Regional Government of Madrid has set up a free replacement bus service, which will remain in place, since it presently covers the section between the affected stations on the route between Príncipe de Vergara and Callao. Metro passengers that use this section may continue to use this service free of charge until the train service is re-established.
Metro de Madrid will continue providing its usual service on line 2 between the stations of Las Rosas and Retiro and between Ópera and Cuatro Caminos.
