The Community of Madrid allocates 155.5 million euros to cleaning Metro stations
The Community of Madrid is going to allocate 155.5 million euros to cleaning in Metro de Madrid. Today, the Governing Council gave the green light to a new contract for this service in the stations and depots of the underground network on lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 and on the ML1 light rail, for the next four years.
Divided into four lots, the contract may be extended for a maximum of one year. The joint investment is 129.5 million euros, which is added to the 26 million euros for cleaning the stations on lines 8 and 10, awarded in 2017. The specification approved today includes ordinary, general and selective cleaning, as well as techniques with specific machinery to improve the perceived quality of floors and escalators.
It also outlines those directed and programmed for specific elements, such as lifts, porticos, touch-screen flooring, etc. It also includes the acquisition, storage, distribution and replacement of equipment and hygiene containers. Finally, it adds the occasional cleaning of trains in cases of immediate attention in stations throughout the day.
The cleaning of the facilities is one of the priorities for the Metro de Madrid in order to ensure a quality, safe and reliable service. The cleaning teams are organised so that there is 24-hour coverage throughout the network, establishing morning, afternoon and night shifts, in order to guarantee the good condition of the stations at all times.
All this cleaning is in addition to the special disinfections that have been carried out throughout the network since March, at the start of the coronavirus public health crisis. Daily disinfection is carried out on trains and stations, paying special attention both to the elements that passengers may come into contact with on their daily journeys (handrails, seats and armrests or door-operated controls, among other surfaces) and to the train drivers' cabins and other working areas on the underground network.
