The Community of Madrid is going to extend the automatic capacity control device to all Metro de Madrid stations. From tomorrow, the device will be active in 148 stations of the network and, in the coming weeks, will be implemented in all stations of the Madrid underground, except TFM and ML1.

This device is designed to control and limit access to the network when the expected capacity is exceeded. Registration is performed using the tickets at the entry turnstiles and operates during the three peak periods of the day. In the event that the maximum capacity permitted in each station is exceeded, the system imposes small limits on the access of passengers to the stations.

This is one of the actions implemented by the Madrid underground network to reinforce safety measures for workers and users, following the trial period at 15 stations in June, and has been gradually extended throughout the network.

Similarly, a week ago, Metro de Madrid reinforced the passenger flow monitoring and access control system deployed in 12 underground stations. This means that nearly 90 people, including Metro staff and security guards, have joined the device that distributes users on the platforms and acts in the event of incidents.

INFORMATION ON THE METRO APP

In addition to these measures, the underground has also implemented a new feature on the Metro app that indicates the status and occupation level compared to the maximum permitted station capacity. In addition, the information is accompanied by a text with the specific percentage of occupancy in the last five minutes. It also informs if there is any kind of delay at the entry to the station at the time of the consultation and users can view a graph with the data of the capacity of the station in the last 45 minutes. 

The Metro app also provides information on exactly where each train travels and the nearest station. This enables travellers to better plan their journeys and reduce the time they spend inside the Madrid metro facilities.

NEW DRIVERS

Meanwhile, yesterday, 15 new train drivers joined the Metro staff after completing their training period. This adds to the 30 drivers who started working at the end of July. There are now 45 drivers in total, meaning the Community of Madrid has reinforced and further improved the service it already offers to its users.

Metro de Madrid continues to work to improve the service it provides and to this end, one of the priority objectives is to strengthen the train driver workforce. For this reason, the Community of Madrid maintains its commitment to hire more than 300 new drivers, which will allow the company to surpass the historical maximum of these professionals in the workforce.
