The Community of Madrid modernises Metro's fire protection systems
The Community of Madrid is going to modernise Metro de Madrid's fire protection systems. At its meeting this week, the Governing Council gave the green light to the awarding of a new contract to carry out work on the installation, modernisation and registration of the fire protection systems located on the premises of the Madrid underground.
This contract is being implemented through a framework agreement, it involves an investment of 12 million euros and will last four years. This is the first step in the Reform Plan that Metro de Madrid has implemented to renew the fire protection systems. This programme is expected to be extended over the next twelve years.
In addition to the modernisation of existing equipment, the contract provides for the implementation of new systems, the testing of the state of the facilities and the repair of the deficiencies detected.
It also includes simulations of risk situations, such as user evacuation or smoke and fire propagation, among others. These actions will be carried out on equipment located in stations, tunnels, premises, depots and offices, both owned and operated by Metro de Madrid.
This work is part of the Community of Madrid's constant commitment to improving the Metro's facilities and ensuring the health and safety of its users.
