Regional Government of Madrid approves more than 63 million euros to train cleaning service in underground
The Regional Government of Madrid has this week authorised the contracting of the cleaning service of the company’s rolling stock, with a base tender budget of 63.2 million euros over a four-year period, with a maximum of two six-month extension periods.
The contract is divided into four lots, which correspond to trains on different lines of the underground. The first of these covers cleaning operations of the rolling stock on Lines 1, 2, 3 and the Ópera-Príncipe Pío Branch Line. The second covers Lines 4, 5 and 7 and infrastructure maintenance vehicles. The third corresponds to the cleaning of rolling stock assigned to Lines 6, 9 and the restored classic trains on display at Chamartín station. Lastly, the fourth lot corresponds to the trains on Lines 8, 10, 11 and 12.
The actions included under this contract include the ordinary cleaning of both the inside and the outside of the trains and infrastructure maintenance vehicles, including the special cleaning which has been carried out since last year due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19.
This process consists of the special daily cleaning of trains, with actions focused on both the elements that passengers may touch on their journeys – handrails, seats, armrests and door handles, among other surface areas – and in the driver’s cabin.
This contract also provides for the technical cleaning of train equipment, along with those elements under the chassis (boxes, bogies, etc.), the air conditioning grills, the cleaning of the lights, the removal of graffiti and the treatment of the headlamps, among others.
Cleaning campaigns will also be carried out of such elements as the inside of the seat frames and the placing of anti-vandal film on windows, along with special cleaning of another nature, such as of the historical trains.
These services will be provided at Metro de Madrid sheds, sites, manoeuvre sites and depots, playing close attention to environmental care and waste management.
Due to the scale of the cleaning works on the Metro rolling stock, the companies contracted will draw up a plan that includes both the complete programming of the cleaning works and the application of inspection and control measures of the quality of the work.
The cleaning of Metro de Madrid rolling stock is one of the company’s priorities, with the aim of guaranteeing a quality, safe and reliable service for users.
