The Regional Government of Madrid will suspend the service on Line 9 of the underground from 1 to 31 August between Colombia and Plaza de Castilla stations to undertake improvement and modernisation works at Duque de Pastrana station. In order to guarantee passenger travel on this stretch, the Regional Transport Consortium plans to lay on a free EMT replacement bus service.

This is the latest improvement works action on the underground implemented this summer by the Regional Government of Madrid, which began on Line 12 of Metrosur and on Lines 6, 7, 2 and 9 to improve the quality of the service.

Taking advantage of the modernisation works at Duque de Pastrana station, which began in June, works will be performed in August to remove asbestos, since there is a decline in the number of passengers at this time due to the summer holidays.

The aim of these modernisation works is to replace the cladding, and obsolete facilities and technology located on the platforms and in the access ways with other more modern materials and equipment. This will facilitate maintenance work in the future and improve the functionality of the installations.

The drainage and sanitation network will be extended with new waterproofing systems and new electricity conduits will be installed. The works on vertical walls and floors will allow their aesthetics to be adapted to the more modern criteria now present in newer stations. Similarly, complementary measures will be introduced that improve and adapt the accessibility criteria.

This action comes under the Modernisation Plan to renovate the oldest stations in the network thanks to an 89-million euro investment. Works have already been completed at Bilbao, Sevilla, Canillejas, Suanzes, Torre Arias, San Blas, Pavones, Tribunal, Ascao, Esperanza, Prosperidad, Alfonso XIII, Arturo Soria, Príncipe de Vergara and Gran Vía stations, and are currently underway at Pueblo Nuevo, Cuatro Caminos and Conde de Casal stations.
