Regional Government of Madrid supervises operators at Innovation and Mobility Management Centre and at Metro Command Post

The Regional Councillor for Transport wished the public transport workers and professionals a Merry Christmas and thanked them for their work. Close to 4,000 employees will work on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to guarantee the mobility of the people of Madrid

The Regional Government of Madrid is supervising operators at the Innovation and Mobility Management Centre of the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium and at the Metro Command Post. The Regional Councillor for Transport and Infrastructure, David Pérez, observed today how the Madrid inter-city and suburban bus network is centralised and administered, coinciding with the celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and took the opportunity to wish workers a Merry Christmas.

David Pérez thanked the close to 4,000 public transport workers, between employees and professionals, for their hard work in offering citizens the best possible service, particularly on dates like Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and Three King’s Day [Epiphany].

In order to guarantee mobility, more than 760 Metro employees, between drain drivers and station and command post staff, will work this afternoon and evening, “demonstrating a tremendous vocation for service, which is particularly worthy of gratitude on festive dates like Christmas Eve”, highlighted David Pérez.

The special operation laid on over Christmas is supervised and controlled from the Command Post, with an increase in train number of up to 50% of some lines to improve citizen mobility over the festive period when people travel more for leisure, shopping and various celebrations.

Accordingly, the number of trains has been increased on Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 on working days and, in particular, on Fridays and at the weekend. In addition to increased train numbers, the special Christmas operation also includes more staff and a heightened security presence at stations, to cater for the expected increase in travel demand at stations near to shopping and leisure areas.

In turn, more than 3,000 employees that work for the EMT and the inter-city bus services, between drivers, inspectors and technical staff, will also provide their services over this festive period.

Tonight, the Madrid underground will run a service until 10 pm, and hence access to the public will be closed at 9:30 pm, while it will re-open its doors at 8 am on Christmas Day.
