Regional Government of Madrid alters public transport timetables for New Year and maintains increased services due to Christmas holidays

The Regional Transport Consortium has introduced special services to facilitate travel. Train services will run as normal on New Year’s Eve, but will open later, at 7 am, on New Year’s Day.. Until 6 January, up to 50% more trains will be laid on and Metro de Madrid staff cover increased

The Regional Government of Madrid reminds public transport users of the traditional changes to timetables due to New Year celebrations. Train services will run as normal on New Year’s Eve, but will open later and train services will be delayed until 7 am on New Year’s Day, both on the Madrid underground and on intercity and suburban buses and other modes of public transport.

Furthermore, Sol underground station will remain closed on both Thursday, 30 December as from 9 pm, and on 31 December from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and as from 9 pm; during these times, the access to RenfeSol from Gran Vía station will also remain closed.

The Municipal Transport Enterprise of Madrid (EMT) will also have a special timetable. The last departures on 31 December – New Year’s Eve – will leave between 9:30 pm and 9:45 pm. The first departures of the night buses (owls) will start from 10:30 pm (buses will leave Moncloa on Line N28 at 11 pm) and will continue until 7 am on New Year’s Day – 1 January.

The daytime bus service will commence on 1 January between 7:15 and 8 am. In the case of intercity buses, the specific timetables can be consulted through the different operators.

As regards the Renfe suburban railway, you are reminded that on 30 and 31 December, Sol station (both suburban railway and underground) will remain closed from 9 pm, on the occasion of the 12-grape and midnight chime celebration rehearsal, and also on the morning of 31 December between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm; the trains on Lines C-3 and C-4 will not stop at this station during that time. The train service on 31 December will end earlier than usual and open an hour later than usual on 1 January.




During the whole holiday and Christmas festive period, the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid has scheduled increased underground, EMT and intercity services, supported by the suburban railway, to facilitate travel related to family leisure activities, family visits and celebrations and shopping activities, paying close attention to shopping areas and city centres, which will continue until 9 January.

Metro de Madrid has increased train services on Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 on working days, and particularly on Fridays and at weekends. In some cases, the increased train service exceeds 28% on working days and up to 50% at weekends.

In the case of the EMT, a special support service has been planned on the 19 lines that run through the city centre, particularly those that cover the usual shopping areas.
