The Community of Madrid launches a blood donation campaign at 9 Metro stations

L
The Community of Madrid will start a blood donation campaign tomorrow with the slogan "You are one metro away from saving many lives" in 9 stations of the underground network. The solidarity initiative will run until 3 June, in collaboration with the regional transfusion centre, the Red Cross and Coca-Cola.
The Metro de Madrid initiative, which is back this year after the Covid-19 pandemic, is in its tenth year, and will take place from Monday to Friday over the next four weeks. This year all those who participate as donors will receive the gift of a cinema ticket.
The Centro de Transfusión de la Comunidad de Madrid, part of the Regional Ministry of Health, manages the campaign as required to help achieve an optimal level of blood reserves.
The Red Cross will set up a mobile unit from 9 to 14 May in the vicinity of Embajadores station, from 10.30 am to 2.45 pm and from 4.45 pm to 9 pm, and at Nuevos Ministerios, from 10.15 am to 8.15 pm.
Between 16 and 20 May it will be at Puerta del Sur from 5 pm to 9 pm, and at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos from 11 am to 3 pm, and from 5 pm to 9 pm. From 17 to 20 May it will be held at the Ciudad Universitaria from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm.
Between 23 and 27 May it will move to the Legazpi and Ciudad Lineal stations, from 16.45 pm to 9 pm, and on 26 and 27 May it will be open from 10.30 am to 2.45 pm, and from 4.45 pm to 9 pm, only in Legazpi. Finally, the mobile unit will visit Getafe Central and Leganés Central from 30 May to 3 June, from 5 pm to 9 pm.
The nine Metro stations have been selected with the intention of reaching as many people as possible from different areas within the region to achieve more blood donations. The locations of some universities have also been taken into account, as on other occasions it was clear that young people stand out for their solidarity in initiatives such as ‘You are one metro away from saving many lives’.
To be a blood donor you only need to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health. It is a very simple gesture of solidarity - it only takes 20 minutes, and a single donation can cure or improve the health of three patients.
