The Community of Madrid increases service by nearly 50% for Black Friday
The Community of Madrid will reinforce the Metro service for Black Friday, with an increase of up to 50% in the number of trains and an increase in the number of staff members at stations. The operation will start on Friday 25 November and will be extended throughout the weekend, with the aim of improving the mobility of underground users at a time when the number of shopping and leisure trips increases considerably.
On Friday, trains will be reinforced on lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, as well as the Ramal Ópera-Príncipe Pío, routes that run through the busiest shopping and leisure areas in the centre of the Spanish capital. Although the operation will start at 9.30 am on line 2, it will be increased from 4 pm on most routes. Thus, between 10 pm and 11 pm it will reach an increase of 40% on L4, and will be extended until 11 pm.
On Saturday, the extension will start at noon on lines 1 and 2, extending to lines 3, 4, 5 and 10 from 5 pm. The maximum reinforcement will be between 9 pm and 10.30 pm, with 47% more trains on line 2. Finally, on Sunday, the service will be increased on lines 1 and 2, with up to 40% more trains between 4 pm and 1 am.
The Metro Command Post will constantly monitor the flow of passengers at the different points on the network and, if necessary, could increase the number of trains. The usual station access control devices will also be in place and there will be a greater number of staff members to facilitate the distribution of users on platforms at peak times.
Black Friday has become Metro's biggest annual demand day in recent years. In 2019, for example, an all-time high for the underground was reached on Friday 29 November with over 2.7 million trips, and on 26 November 2021, 2.1 million trips were recorded.
DISCOUNTS AT THE METRO SHOP
The Madrid railway company joins the Black Friday celebrations once again with special discounts on products at its shop. From 21 to 27 November, there will be sales of up to 50% on all items that can be purchased both in the shops, located at the Sol and Plaza de Castilla stations, and online at www.latiendademetrodemadrid.com.
