The Community of Madrid has been awarded for its innovative commitment to the use of renewable energies from the urban subsoil in the extension of Metro Line 11 and for incorporating, as a pioneering project in Spain, thermoactivation in the Conde de Casal station. The Regional Minister of Transport, Mobility and Infrastructure, David Pérez, received the award today at the 4th meeting of the Aula Madrid Subterra, held by the School of Industrial Engineering.

In line with the reduction of fossil energy consumption, the Community of Madrid will build a geothermal energy exchange system on the extension of L11 of the underground line, on the Plaza Elíptica – Conde Casal section, which will supply the thermal demands of the transport interchange to be built at the latter station. This technology is based on the property of the subsoil to maintain a stable temperature all year round regardless of weather conditions. This enables a high-performance energy exchange which, by means of heat pumps, will cover the necessary demand for air conditioning and hot water production.
