In advance of UITP's major public transport summit, to be held from 4 to 7 June in Barcelona. International delegations visit the CRTM headquarters, the Metro headquarters and the refurbished Gran Vía station. Tomorrow it will be the turn of representatives from New Delhi, Santiago de Chile and Montevideo.

The Community of Madrid has received the main North American transport organisations today. The acting Regional Minister of Transport, Mobility and Infrastructure, David Pérez, has shown the facilities of the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) to a first delegation made up of representatives of the American Public Transport Association (APTA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). This afternoon, they will visit the Gran Vía Metro station and the railway company's headquarters in Plaza de Castilla.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the main transport companies in Washington, Los Angeles, Ohio and Dallas, among others. This study mission is part of the preparatory activities for the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, the major mobility summit to be held in Barcelona from 4 to 7 June, in which the CRTM and Metro de Madrid will also participate.

During the visit, they were interested in several aspects regarding the subject, such as innovation and development projects regarding new technologies, extensions and construction techniques and associated methodologies or actions carried out to increase user demand and improve customer experience.

The American delegation visited the Madrid Public Transport Innovation and Management Centre (Centro de Innovación y Gestión del Transporte Público de Madrid, CITRAM) where the state of the infrastructures and services operating in the region can be observed in real time. Also Gran Vía station, an iconic space that represents the past and the future of the Madrid underground.

They then travelled by Metro to the company's headquarters in Plaza de Castilla, an example of the application of innovation in looking after the environment. It is a Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB), producing their own electricity by means of photovoltaic panels, geothermal wells, lighting with natural light sensors and LED technology, as well as water use and green roofs.

Tomorrow, Friday, it will be the turn of a second delegation, made up of representatives from different parts of the world, from New Delhi to Santiago de Chile and Montevideo, who, in addition to today's spaces, will visit the Metro Command Post and Chamartín station, with its historic trains.

INTERNATIONAL INTEREST

Every year, both the CRTM and Metro de Madrid host a large number of institutional, educational and technical visits to their facilities, which enables other undergrounds and transport systems, both national and international, to learn about the way these organisations work.

So far this year, 18 national and international delegations have visited the CRTM and 23 have visited Metro. The visit by representatives of line operators and energy remote control operators from Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and, on an international level, SNCF Transilien, the brand of the underground train network in the Île de France region, who visited the company's facilities and hold meetings with the different technical departments, were particularly noteworthy.
