Work will begin early next year and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. It will extend the space of its facilities threefold, responding more effectively to the influx of passengers on match days and at events hosted by the stadium. The stop will have 12 new lifts and 24 escalators and the work will be coordinated with other development work in the surrounding area.

The Community of Madrid will modernise the Santiago Bernabéu Metro station (Line 10) with a design inspired by the Real Madrid football stadium. The tender for the start of the works will be published in the next few days and the forecast is that this project, in which the regional government will invest €68 million, will be awarded at the end of this year, to start at the beginning of 2024 and be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

Amongst the actions to be undertaken at this emblematic underground stop is a notable increase in space, which will triple from the current 4,843 square metres to 12,481 square metres, as well as the installation of 12 new lifts and 24 escalators. Architectural finishes will also be renovated, with technological advances that will improve service and user experience, while optimising efficiency and maintenance.

In addition, the new design will make it possible to respond more effectively to the influx of passengers, which is especially high on match days, and which is expected to increase after the remodelling that will turn the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium into a reference point for the organisation of cultural, leisure and entertainment events in the capital and in Europe.

These works will be coordinated with the urbanisation works to be undertaken by Real Madrid in the area around the Plaza de Lima, the car park, the new cycle lane on the Castellana and the other pre-existing services. It is also part of an area undergoing a major transformation in the city of Madrid, where, in addition to the renovation of the stadium itself, the comprehensive revitalisation of AZCA, the works on the axis of Avenida del General Perón and Concha Espina, and the remodelling and commissioning of the Palacio de Congresos de la Castellana are in the pipeline.

DESIGN INSPIRED BY REAL MADRID AND FULLY ACCESSIBLE

This stop on the Madrid underground has had a close relationship with the Real Madrid stadium since its origins. So much so that, although it was opened in 1982 under the name of Estación de Lima, in 1998 it was renamed Santiago Bernabéu, given that a good number of users depart from or go to the sports venue.

For this reason, the actions planned for the coming months include a new design of the interior space to reflect the particular relationship between the station and the Real Madrid stadium, a sporting emblem of the Spanish capital and a major tourist attraction.

Included in the Accessibility and Inclusion Plan 2021-2028, it will implement complementary universal accessibility measures to facilitate transport for all passengers, especially those with reduced mobility. Once this improvement work has been completed, this stop on Metro line 10 will become one of the 27 fully accessible stops on the Madrid underground network.
