The Community of Madrid launches a digital tool that anticipates the temperature and occupancy of trains for Metro passengers
The Regional Minister of Transport, Mobility and Infrastructure stresses that this technological advance contributes to the modernisation of this public service. Available on the subway App, the information is obtained from sensors installed on the convoys. This project, which began on Line 5, will improve user comfort and will gradually be extended to the whole network.
The Community of Madrid has launched a new digital tool in the Metro mobile application that will enable underground users to find out in real time and in advance about variables such as the occupancy and temperature of the trains in circulation, so that they carriage choose the car that best suits their preferences before it arrives at the platform.
The Regional Minister for Housing, Transport, Mobility and Infrastructures, Jorge Rodrigo, stressed that "this digital development contributes to the goal of modernising Metro by serving the greatest number of people, improving travel conditions and reducing environmental impact".
This innovative information is obtained by processing and updating the data provided by the sensors installed in the cars of line 5 every 15 seconds, covering the route between Casa de Campo and Alameda de Osuna. And once its effectiveness has been proven, this feature will be gradually extended to the whole of the underground network. With actions and improvements such as this, the public company continues to advance in the process of digital transformation to increase the quality of service and improve user comfort.
To access this feature, please select the Occupancy Level option in the general menu of the App, indicating the address of line 5 on which you wish to collect the data. The position of the trains running is shown below in a simple graphical form.
Currently, more than 550,000 people have downloaded the Metro App on their mobile devices to plan and optimise their trips, which provides them with a wealth of information on the distance to the nearest station, arrival time of the next train, lift and escalator status, as well as general information on season tickets, fares, timetables and contact details. Moreover, thanks to its interactive nature, users can send alerts to the company when stations or convoys need to be cleaned.
