The Community of Madrid promotes responsible use of the underground among students in the region through the AulaMetro project

Minister Rodrigo visited this space in Nuevos Ministerios today with 25 children from CEIP Camilo José Cela. More than 5,800 students took part last year in this free initiative to raise awareness of the benefits of public transport. This year, the programme is being extended to pre-school education, thus including schoolchildren from all levels in Madrid.
Today, the Community of Madrid inaugurated the AulaMetro project at Nuevos Ministerios station, an initiative that promotes responsible use of the underground among students in the region. This way, and coinciding with the start of the 2023/2024 school year, the company has refurbished the spaces and has included audiovisual and educational materials in this area, as well as improving accessibility to its facilities.
The Regional Minister for Housing, Transport, Mobility and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, took part in this activity with the students of the Camilo José Cela Infant and Primary School at the start of their tour of Line 8, where they could learn about the main elements of the line and how to correctly interpret the map, the signage and the different pictograms that Metro de Madrid presents.
Last year, more than 5,800 children took part in this course, which was created 41 years ago to raise awareness among young people about the benefits of public transport and the importance of the underground from a historical, technological and sustainable point of view. "As a novelty, this year, the programme will be extended to pre-school education, from which schoolchildren in all cycles and special education in Madrid will benefit", the Minister explained.
In the more than four decades since the project was launched, it has been attended by 370,000 students, as the company has another classroom of similar characteristics at El Bercial station, on Line 12.
All activities are free of charge and, in order to participate, schools can request information by emailing aulametro@metromadrid.es
