The Community of Madrid has been awarded the prize for the Best Data Management Project in Public Transport for the work undertaken by Metro de Madrid in the field of digitalisation. This recognition was awarded by Byte TI magazine at the 2023 awards ceremony held recently at the Museo del Traje in the Spanish capital.

Specifically, the work of the underground has been highlighted in the processing of the large volume of information it receives from the sensors on the trains, as well as from the signalling systems, escalators, collection and sales validations and pumping wells, among other elements.

In order to analyse this data, it uses Big Data technology, which enables it to make decisions early enough to increase efficiency and detect possible breakdowns in advance. These developments also help to optimise service planning and station capacity management.

Metro de Madrid also uses this methodology to improve user experience and enable them to plan their trip in an optimum manner or to find out the occupancy level of the coaches and the temperature in the different stops, thanks to real-time information sent by each convoy.
