The Community of Madrid extends the Christmas Train this year to MetroSur
Councillor Rodrigo opened this initiative today by travelling the route between Moncloa and Lucero. From today until 6 January, it joins the decorated and illuminated convoy that runs along the circular line (L6). In addition, a gospel choir will perform recitals at ten stations on seven lines and there will be free guided tours of its network of museums. For the first time, the metropolitan company will have its own float in the Three Kings' Parade in the Spanish capital.
This year, the Community of Madrid has extended the Christmas Train to two Metro lines to send Christmas greetings to underground passengers. Thus, from today until 6 January, in addition to the convoy that always runs along line 6, another one will be added on line 12 (MetroSur), also themed and illuminated with more than 700 metres of LED lights on windows and doors. In addition, at weekends and on public holidays, Santa Claus and the pages of Their Majesties the Three Wise Men from the East will be on board and liven up the trip with music.
This was announced by the Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructures, Jorge Rodrigo, who inaugurated this traditional activity by making the trip from Moncloa to Lucero station, both on Line 6. As in previous years, the Madrid company will provide information on its X profile –formerly Twitter– about the approximate route of the trains so that passengers who want to get on can find out in advance.
Also for Christmas, ten stations on lines 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (MetroSur) will host performances by the All4gospel gospel choir. Specifically, these recitals will be held at the Paco de Lucía, Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, Colombia, Moncloa, Embajadores, Alto del Arenal, Puerta del Sur, Conservatorio and Villaverde Bajo-Cruce stops.
The public company will also offer free guided tours of the museums in its network on these dates: Nave de Motores, Chamberí and Exhibition of Historic Trains at Chamartín. Those interested need to book in advance at https://museosmetromadrid.es/.
METRO, FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE THREE WISE MEN PARADE
Another novelty this season is that, for the first time, the underground will participate with its own float in the Spanish capital's traditional Three Wise Men Parade. The theme chosen to decorate this vehicle will be its centenary trajectory and the figure of the architect Antonio Palacios, the 150th anniversary of whose birth is in January.
Similarly, the metropolitan company will also be present at the Juvenalia fair, aimed at children and young people, with a booth of more than 100 square metres, from 22 December to 7 January, at the IFEMA exhibition centre. And a limited edition sweater, adorned with the trains and the diamond representing its logo, is now on sale in its corporate shops and online, among a wide range of unique products.
