The Community of Madrid reinforces the Metro service by up to 50% to guarantee the mobility of citizens in December

The increase in trains and staff members will begin tomorrow and will last until 6 January. The number of trains and employees will be increased on lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The aim of this special Christmas arrangement is to meet the increased demand for trips to shopping and leisure areas.
Tomorrow, the Community of Madrid is activating the special Christmas programme to guarantee travel on public transport, which will last until 6 January, with up to 50% more trains on six Metro lines.
The most affected lines will be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, both on weekdays and especially on Fridays and weekends. The underground will increase the number of trains between 10 am and closing time, but this will be particularly noticeable during peak travel times to shopping and leisure areas, mainly in the evenings. Therefore, in some cases the increase will be up to 33% on weekdays and 50% on weekends and holidays.
The presence of station and security staff will also be increased to meet the increased demand for travel, bearing in mind that most of the passenger flows on these dates take place in the most central stations in the Spanish capital: Ópera, Sol, Callao, Gran Vía, Sevilla, Tirso de Molina, Príncipe Pío, Banco de España, Santo Domingo, Serrano, Goya, Plaza de España, Lavapiés, Chueca, Nuevos Ministerios, Tribunal
On the other hand, in the case of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT), service improvements are planned for 20 lines running through the city centre of Madrid (lines 1, 2, 6, 20, 31, 32, 35, 50, 51, 52, 53, 53, 74, 133, 146, 147, 148, 150, E1, 001 and M1).
In addition, on 24 and 25 December and 1 January the opening and closing times of Metro Ligero, EMT intercity and city buses and the transport interchanges of Plaza de Castilla, Plaza Elíptica, Moncloa, Príncipe Pío and Avenida de América will be modified.
