The Community of Madrid converts Metro facilities into the backdrop for the filming of the most outstanding series of 2023
The Community of Madrid has converted the facilities of the Metro network into a large set for the filming of the most outstanding series of the moment, concentrating a total of 22 productions in 2023. Thus, the recently released Red Queen used the stations of Chamartín, Chamberí, Noviciado and Goya to film some scenes.
Likewise, the Madrid underground has been present in other titles such as Berlin, available on the Netflix platform since last December; Amazon's Memento Mori; and Salón de té, la Moderna, which is currently being broadcast on TVE.
In addition to these, there are other shootings linked to advertising campaigns, such as the Spanish Christmas Lottery advert, and for companies such as Bosch and Amazon. The most requested locations have been, in addition to those mentioned above, those of Paco de Lucía, Puerta del Ángel, Ópera, Legazpi, Sol, Ventas and Banco de España.
These 22 shootings have involved 177 hours of work and 27 days in which more than 1,152 professionals from the audiovisual world have participated, including actors, production personnel, extras and camera operators.
Since its origins, Metro de Madrid has been the place chosen by great Spanish filmmakers for the filming of their works. Thanks to this, it has been possible to see the evolution of Madrid society, as well as the great transformation that the entrances to the underground, its halls, platforms and trains have undergone over its history.
Although there are many titles linked in one way or another to filmmaking, Ópera Prima (1980) is perhaps one of the most relevant, as it was the directorial début of Fernando Trueba. Other notable films include Laberinto de pasiones (1982), in which Pedro Almodóvar places the main actress, Cecilia Roth, at the Aluche stop; and Tiovivo C.1950 (2004), by José Luis Garci, in which Elsa Pataky plays a ticket agent of the metro company.
