The Governing Council has approved the contract for the drafting of the project that will facilitate mobility in these residential areas. It will be located on Line 9 between Puerta de Arganda and Rivas Urbanizaciones and will serve the residents of two areas with special urban expansion. More than 255,000 people use L9 every day, one of the longest underground lines. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and the surface stop is expected to be completed by 2029.

The Community of Madrid has initiated the procedures for the construction of a Metro station on Line 9 in the urban developments of Los Ahijones and Los Berrocales in the city of Madrid. At its meeting today, the Governing Council approved the contract for the drafting of the project to improve the mobility of residents living in these new residential areas in the south-east of the Spanish capital.

The regional government, through the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, will thus reinforce the service of the metropolitan company's L9, increasing the number of stations to 30 with the implementation of a surface stop which is expected to be operational in 2029 and will be located between Puerta de Arganda and Rivas Urbanizaciones. The amount authorised for this initial phase is €352,000 and the deadline for its execution is 14 months, with the start of the works scheduled for the beginning of 2027.

The volume of passengers using this line of the Madrid underground network amounts to more than 255,000 people per day, a number that will increase considerably when the construction work planned for both areas of the Spanish capital is completed, bearing in mind that Los Ahijones is planning to build around 19,000 homes, while Los Berrocales could have more than 22,000.

This way, the regional government continues with its commitment to quality public transport and adds another mobility option to the expansion of the Metro network, which, in addition to the direct benefits for citizens, also leads to environmental and social improvements.

Currently, the railway company has several actions underway to establish new connections and continue to improve the user experience.

A NEW PROJECT TO FURTHER EXPAND THE METRO NETWORK

Thus, the station that will serve these urban developments joins a long list of works that are in different phases. The works to link L3 and L12 are now more than 75% complete, which will enable a second point of connection between MetroSur and the capital to be established before the end of the year. The Community of Madrid has invested €110 million in this intervention.

Construction is also progressing on the future Madrid Río station which, together with the Comillas station, will form part of the Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal connection. It is the first step of the L11 to create an axis of more than 33 kilometres that will cross the region from south-west to north-east between Cuatro Vientos and Valdebebas. L5 will reach Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport thanks to its extension from Alameda de Osuna.

In addition, the metropolitan company is undertaking remodelling and modernisation work on accesses with a high passenger traffic on the underground, such as Begoña (L10) and Ventas (L5), in line with the regional government's commitment to increase accessibility throughout the public transport network.
