The Community of Madrid creates the new Metro Data Processing Centre that concentrates all of the underground's technological infrastructures

This 8,000 square metre facility is part of Estación 4.0, the company's digital transformation project. It will manage the total operations, maintenance and information of the company, improving the reaction time to any incident. The goal is to save costs by putting an end to the geographical dispersion of Madrid's underground facilities. The DPC has higher levels of cyber security, operator and crisis rooms and is one of the pillars of the so-called Smart Metro.

The Community of Madrid has set up a new Data Processing Centre (DPC) for Metro de Madrid that will house all of the company's technological infrastructures in a single 8,000 square metre space, managing all of the company's operations, maintenance and information.

Until now, these activities have taken place in five locations in different parts of the Spanish capital. These were Alto del Arenal, Puerta del Sur, Campo de las Naciones, San Lorenzo and Canillejas. However, with the newly created DPC, everything is integrated, allowing for improved reaction time to any incident.

This initiative of the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure is part of the Metro's digital transformation project, known as Station 4.0. The objective of the Madrid underground with the DPC is to reduce geographical dispersion, thus facilitating cost savings. The relocation of the Centre of Operations for Maintenance and Monitoring of Installations and Telecommunications (COMMIT) alone has saved around €400,000 per year in rent.

COMMIT is responsible for maintaining, supervising and resolving all incidents that occur in the communication, IT, power, signalling and electromechanical equipment in the 302 stations of the network. These include lifts, escalators, surveillance cameras, access control, public transport card vending machines, remote indicators and lighting.

After this first transfer, the other technological platforms of the underground's operating and railway systems, as well as other new ones that will be designed for Station 4.0, will be progressively migrated to the Data Processing Centre.

The DPC, the location of which is not disclosed for security reasons, has higher levels of protection against cyber-attacks, operator and crisis rooms. It is one of the pillars of the so-called Intelligent Metro, the basis of the transformation in which the company is immersed and which includes other projects that are currently being developed such as the digital train or the Network Operational Control Centre (Centro de Control Operativo de Red, CCOR).
