These facilities serve the more than 2,000 carriages operating on the underground. The 14 centres will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery to handle train maintenance. The plan, which will be developed over the next 10 years, includes everything from the adaptation of tracks to the modernisation of car washes and the air-conditioning of workspaces.

The Community of Madrid will invest more than €168 million in the renovation of Metro's 14 maintenance workshops. This way, the regional government aims to improve the operational efficiency, sustainability and safety of facilities that are vital for the proper functioning of the 2,083 trains that operate on the Madrid underground.

The plan, which will be developed over the next ten years, contemplates different interventions such as the adaptation of the tracks, the modernisation of the car wash tunnels and the access walkways to the car deck or the creation of warehouses for more specific tasks. Similarly, the metropolitan company will also undertake the updating of overhead cranes and the air-conditioning of all work spaces.

This way, the regional government will reinforce this area of operations with the acquisition, in addition, of state-of-the-art machinery that will meet current needs for the repair of equipment, such as lifts and control machines. The ongoing innovation and regulatory evolution of the industry, together with the incorporation of new vehicles, requires great adaptive capacities on the part of Metro, both in infrastructures and in training resources for its employees.

These actions are part of the underground's ongoing efforts to modernise its facilities and ensure a quality service for the more than two and a half million passengers who use this means of transport every day. Therefore, in line with the other renovation and conservation actions, the ultimate aim of these activities is to avoid incidents on the trains, guaranteeing their reliability and safety in circulation, and to improve the experience of users during their trips.
