The Community of Madrid will invest €6.7 million in the services that will guarantee the quality and safety of 40 new Metro trains. The Governing Council, at its meeting today, heard the proposal for the award of the contract to carry out the certification, inspection, monitoring and assistance for the supply of these wide gauge convoys, mainly for lines 6 and 8, which are scheduled to arrive in approximately three years' time.
The aim of the ten-year contract is to confirm the maximum efficiency of the new rolling stock purchased by the metropolitan company. The tender covers all these tasks in the comprehensive process of designing, manufacturing, guaranteeing and implementing an Optimised Maintenance Plan.
The consultancy will also be carried out during all phases of the project, attending in person the testing of materials, equipment and systems, as well as the checks on the full train. In addition, among other tasks, it will act as an Assessment Entity, independently certifying that the convoy and its structures comply with all the quality and safety standards required in the European railway industry.
The regional government will invest €450 million in the purchase of these 40 trains, each with six carriages and intercommunicated corridors, which will replace the older models. In addition, the purchase of another 40 units is also planned, in this case of narrow gauge for Line 1, the first to be inaugurated by Metro in 1919.
