The Community of Madrid promotes responsible use of the Metro among almost 4,000 students at all educational levels
The AulaMetro programme is a free initiative to raise awareness of the advantages of this mode of public transport. Among the 12 itineraries included in this project, the most important are Cuidamos el planeta (We look after the planet) and Aprendemos a viajar solos (We learn to travel on our own), aimed at primary schoolchildren. There are also activities aimed at students from special education centres to reinforce the autonomy of people with disabilities on the underground
During the last school year, the Community of Madrid has trained almost 4,000 students from all educational stages in the responsible use of Metro and in the advantages offered by this mode of public transport, thanks to the AulaMetro programme.
Among the 12 itineraries included in this free initiative of the metropolitan company, Cuidamos el planeta and Aprendemos a viajar solos stand out, aimed at primary schoolchildren, in which more than 3,000 pupils have taken part. In the quality survey undertaken among the schools, this activity was rated as good or very good by 97% of the schools, who also recommended it 100%.
In higher education, secondary school, vocational training and university studies, the programme seeks to convey the importance of the underground from a historical, technological and sustainability point of view. Through visits to the work spaces and museums of the Madrid metro, students have the opportunity to see the contribution of this public company to the economic and social development of the region, as well as to learn about the infrastructure from a more technical point of view.
On the other hand, schools participating in the AulaMetro programme, including special education schools, receive courses adapted to the interests and needs of their students. In this sense, training sessions and gymkhanas have been held for people with intellectual disabilities or comprehension problems, with the aim of promoting their autonomy to travel on the public transport network. These activities, which were attended by nearly 400 people, are also part of the Support Line for the Reinforcement of Autonomy (Línea de Apoyo para el Refuerzo de la Autonomía, LARA).
All the itineraries of this project can be checked on the website www.metromadrid.es.
