The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during her speech on the first day of the Debate on the State of the Region, which was held today in the Madrid Assembly, announced that the regional government is planning to transform the Duque de Pastrana station on Line 9 into a major Metro accessibility centre.

Thus, before the end of the year, the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures will begin work on the installation of six lifts with an investment of €11 million in this strategic location near the new headquarters of the ONCE Group. These lifts will connect the street directly to the platform without the need to use the stairs.

In addition, the station will incorporate the PULSE system, which enables visually impaired people to call the lift with an application installed on their mobile phone, and will include inductive loop technology, so that users with hearing aids can hear intercom and public address messages clearly.

The project responds to Metro's strategy of making the underground network an example of universal accessibility with the aim that, in the near future, all passengers will be able to use public transport on equal terms.

The Community of Madrid recently received AENOR certification in recognition of the metropolitan company's commitment to this purpose. Moreover, it ranks first in Europe and fourth in the world in this area, with a total of 1,710 escalators and 559 lifts.
