Next year, the Community of Madrid will introduce card payments on intercity buses throughout the region. This was announced today by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during her speech at the State of the Region Debate in the Madrid Assembly. The first tests will be undertaken over the next few weeks on urban routes in Torrejón de Ardoz and then extended to the rest of the network.

The goal is for operators to have the validation machines in place across their entire fleet by June 2025. The regional government thus seeks to digitalise and modernise public transport throughout Madrid and to extend this form of payment to all vehicles.

At the same time, the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) is working on the development of the digital Public Transport Card (TTP) so that, in the coming months, users will be able to use it on their mobile phones and dispense with the current plastic card. This measure will be implemented by the end of October for the 10-trip and tourist tickets and, in the first quarter of 2025, it will be developed to include personal travel cards.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT PLANNER

Finally, the CRTM will launch the Public Transport Planner, a tool that will integrate all the information in real time on all means of transport, enabling citizens to calculate their route between any two points, taking into account the location of vehicles, incidents and alerts, and the final implementation of which will take place over the next year.
