The Community of Madrid will start a blood donation campaign with the slogan "You are one metro away from saving many lives" in 6 stations of the underground network. The solidarity initiative will run until 30 November, in collaboration with the regional Transfusion Centre, the Red Cross and Coca Cola.

Now in its twelfth year, this initiative will take place from Monday to Friday over the next four weeks.

A number of fixed units will be installed in the vicinity of the following Metro de Madrid stations: Gran Vía, from Monday to Sunday between 11 am and 8.45 pm, Guzmán el Bueno, from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 8.30 pm and Bilbao, every Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm to 9 pm.

In addition, from Monday 11 November to Friday 15 November, a mobile unit will be on site near Legazpi Metro station from 5 pm to 9 pm. Then, from 18 to 22 November, it will be moved to the area around the Ciudad Universitaria station from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm. Finally, from 25 November to 29 November, it will be next to the Colombia station between 5 pm to 9 pm.

The six Metro stations have been selected with the intention of reaching out to as many people as possible from different areas of the Community in order to attract more donors and offer them several possibilities to donate wherever they go about their daily activities.

The location of donation points at the university has also been taken into account, as previous campaigns have shown that university students are very proactive when it comes to donating blood.

To be a donor you only need to be 18 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health. Men can donate 4 times a year while women can donate 3 times a year. You only have to wait two months between one donation and the next. It is a very simple gesture of solidarity - it only takes 20 minutes, and a single donation can cure or improve the health of three patients.

The Centro de Transfusión de la Comunidad de Madrid, part of the Regional Ministry of Health, manages the campaign as required to help achieve an optimal level of blood reserves.
