The Community of Madrid extends the AulaMetro project to the underground’s workshops and reaches twice as many students as in the previous academic year

CAM Regional Minister Jorge Rodrigo presents AulaMetro to a group of children

Regional Minister Rodrigo accompanied students from CEIP El Trigal de Fuenlabrada to the new space at the Canillejas Logistics Centre. The programme includes 12 free activities with the goal of promoting the use of public transport and sustainable mobility. This year sees the launch of two new initiatives, Profesiones con futuro (Professions with a future), with testimonials from female employees of the company to encourage young women to opt for science degrees, and Metro por dentro (Metro from the inside). The actions that arouse most interest are those aimed at primary schoolchildren, which account for more than 62% of the places allocated

The Community of Madrid has opened a new Metro educational area at the Logistics Centre in its Canillejas facilities, which is part of the AulaMetro project, an initiative of the Madrid underground to promote the use of public transport and raise awareness among schoolchildren of its responsible use. In addition, two new activities have been created, Metro por dentro y Profesiones con futuro, which will enable this educational initiative to reach twice as many students as in the previous academic year.

This was highlighted today by the Regional Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, during his visit to this site together with students from CEIP El Trigal de Fuenlabrada, where he assured that with these proposals, the participation of schoolchildren is expected to reach 8,000 compared to 4,000 last year.

Thus, Metro por dentro stresses the importance of logistics for the smooth running of the network. Through the viewing of an explanatory video, a tour of the central warehouses and a workshop, children can learn, in a playful way, about the importance of this planning that enables the underground to store and transport goods on its trains. The new space joins the existing AulaMetro spaces located in Nuevos Ministerios (lines 6, 10 and 8) and El Bercial (L12).

Profesiones con futuro aimed at 3rd and 4th year ESO and Baccalaureate students aims to inspire them to choose their educational pathway. The initiative includes the special testimony of female underground workers who have stood out for their careers in the company and who, with this, wish to encourage, especially young women, to opt for degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and vocational training in electronics, mechanics, computer science and communications.

In addition, the Madrid-based company repeats its participation in the 4th of ESO + Company programme, which offers internships n a work environment so that students can learn about the reality of companies.

42 YEARS PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE METRO USE

AulaMetro, which was founded in 1982, currently includes 12 free activities aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and raising awareness of the importance of the company from a historical and technological point of view, as well as its contribution to the social and cultural, economic and environmental development of the region.

The programme extends to all educational levels, including public, subsidised and private schools in the Community of Madrid. The proposals that arouse most interest are those aimed at primary schoolchildren: Conocemos Metro (Discovering Metro), Cuidamos el planeta (We care for the planet) y Metro por dentro (Metro from the inside), which represent more than 62% of the places allocated.
