The Community of Madrid registers 355,000 passengers on Metro's Christmas Train in the first twenty days of operation
The Community of Madrid has registered 355,000 passengers in the first twenty days of operation of the Metro Christmas Train. The train runs on Line 6 with special decoration for the festive season until 6 January and users can enjoy magical encounters with Father Christmas and his elves until Christmas Eve and with Their Majesties the Three Kings from 26 December.
Today, the Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, took stock of this service after visiting the stations linking Ciudad Universitaria with Nuevos Ministerios, accompanied by women with disabilities and their children from the group Madres capaces of the Fundación A LA PAR. In addition, at the end of the trip, they enjoyed a concert performed by 50 children from the Children and Youth Choir of the Community of Madrid.
This initiative has already become one of the classic plans for this time of year in the Spanish capital and arouses great expectation among Metro de Madrid users, as reflected by the more than 4.5 million views of the train video posted on the company's social media accounts, which provides daily information on its X account regarding the route and approximate timetable.
Among its passengers are the 2,100 schoolchildren from 50 schools from all over the region who have taken part in the Christmas Classroom programme so far at Moncloa station, a project with passes arranged in advance with the schools so that the youngest passengers can use this special train, as well as watch magic shows.
Metro's Christmas programme continues in Ópera, where a Nativity Scene is on display for the first time, created by the Madrid Nativity Scene Association. Specifically, this Nativity has been installed in the Arch of the Amaniel Aqueduct, kept in the Caños del Peral Museum.
On the other hand, on 20 December, a concert will take place in the Nave de Motores de Pacífico by the wind and brass group Atlántida Brass, which will perform a wide repertoire of Christmas music. Reservations are required at https://museosmetromadrid.es to access this free recital.
An exhibition of models of historical rolling stock will be held in the same space from 6 December, where a reproduction of the Cuatro Caminos model at 1:14 scale, and another six at 1:20 scale of classic cars, made by students of the Higher Degree in Modelling and Model Making of the ArteDiez Public School of Design will be on display.
Also from 20 December, and with prior reservation at Chamartín station, the people of Madrid will be able to take a trip on a simulator through the inaugural section of Metro de Madrid on the first train to run on the Madrid underground. Finally, as is now tradition, the company extend the days on which its museums can be visited, by appointment, so that all citizens can visit them from Monday to Sunday at different times.
