The Community of Madrid strengthens the Metro workforce with the recruitment of 45 new drivers
The metropolitan company currently has 7,324 employees, almost 100% of whom are permanent. In total, more than 300 have joined the Madrid underground in 2024, in addition to more than a hundred area managers. They will start in their new post from 30 December, once they have completed their theoretical and practical training
The Community of Madrid has reinforced the Metro workforce with the recruitment of 45 new drivers, bringing the number of professionals in this position who have joined the underground's workforce over the course of 2024 to more than 300. These employees will start working as of 30 December after having passed the theoretical and practical training period.
This incorporation completes the recruitment phase initiated by Metro at the end of 2022, when the call for public employment was posted in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (Boletín Oficial de la Comunidad de Madrid, BOCM). It has also seen around 100 new area managers join the company this year, with further expansion planned for 2025.
The train drivers have received 337.5 hours of theoretical and practical training, distributed over 45 days. Area managers have also received 376 hours, in this case spread over 47 days. The contents of the course include those specific to their positions and the general knowledge required by the underground network, together with Self-Protection Plans, fire extinguishers, first aid, Occupational Risk Prevention modules and notions of customer service.
Metro de Madrid currently has a total workforce of 7,324 employees and practically 100% (99.92) have permanent contracts, which guarantees stability within the metropolitan company. Of those, 2,035 are responsible for driving the trains and 1,484 focus on passenger care, while the rest carry out infrastructure maintenance and support duties for the provision of the service.
