This action is part of the 2021/2028 Accessibility and Inclusion Plan that is under development by the metropolitan company. The project, which has a budget of around €19 million, includes the modernisation of the facilities and the purchase of new intercoms. The works are scheduled to take 24 months to complete and will benefit some 220,000 users per month.

The Community of Madrid will install six new lifts in the Alto de Extremadura Metro station (Line 6) to make it easier for passengers to enter and exit the station. In the next few days, the metropolitan company will publish the tender for these works with a budget of €18.7 million.

The works, which include the modernisation of the facilities, will be undertaken within 24 months of the award of the contract and will benefit around 220,000 users per month, especially those with reduced mobility.

This action will enable passengers to enter directly from the Paseo de Extremadura in the Spanish capital through six lifts that will communicate with the different levels of the infrastructure, making the platforms accessible without the need to use stairs. In addition, new corridors, emergency exits and a new low-voltage room will be built.

Moreover, the most obsolete cladding and technology will be replaced, which will facilitate maintenance work and the operation of this space. This will improve the waterproofing, drainage and sanitation, as well as the electrical installation.

Furniture, platform cabins and technical rooms will also be renovated, as well as remote management. On the other hand, there will be new intercoms to reinforce the communication processes between disabled users and station staff. The public address systems will be modernised and digital signage will be incorporated.

This action is part of the 2021/2028 Accessibility and Inclusion Plan that the metropolitan company is developing and which includes the installation of lifts in Ventas, Avenida de América, Begoña, Santiago Bernabéu and Duque de Pastrana stations. Similarly, in March, work will begin on the commissioning of 15 new lifts in Tetuán, Puente de Vallecas, Campamento, Canillejas, Ciudad Lineal and Carabanchel, as well as the installation of escalators in San Blas, Estrella and Prosperidad.
