The Community of Madrid is undertaking 25% of the work on the new Santiago Bernabéu Metro station, which will open in 2027

The entry into operation of this infrastructure will coincide with the 125th anniversary of the foundation of Real Madrid and the 80th birthday of the stadium. The regional government has invested €66 million in this project, which will guarantee 100% accessibility, with 12 new panoramic lifts and 24 escalators. The construction will extend the current space threefold from 4,843 square metres to more than 12,400 square metres.
The Community of Madrid has already completed 25% of the work on the new Santiago Bernabéu Metro station (Line 10), meeting the deadlines that were set. This way, the infrastructure will come into operation to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the foundation of Real Madrid and the 80th birthday of the inauguration of the club's stadium.
With an investment of €66 million, the construction will extend the current space threefold from 4,843 square metres to more than 12,400 square metres and will be 100% accessible thanks to the installation of 12 new lifts and 24 escalators.
Once half of the foundations of the future station have been completed at a depth of some 40 metres. Metro de Madrid is working on the roof slab of the box section and will soon carry out the work in the symmetrical area. Once this action has been completed, which has been made compatible without having to stop the railway activity, the surface will be freed from traffic and the interior excavation will begin. To date, 120,000 cubic metres have been excavated between screens and an area of 10,000 square metres has been paved. More than 28,000 m3 of concrete, more than 7 million kilograms of steel and 25 kilometres of pivots were used.
Thanks to the comprehensive redesign, the corridors will be replaced by a large concourse, from which the intermediate levels and the platforms themselves will be visible, responding more efficiently to passenger traffic, which is particularly high on match days. In addition, it is envisaged that the decoration of this space will be related to the history of the club.
As part of the underground's commitment to accessibility and inclusion, the station will be fully accessible, including the installation of 12 new panoramic lifts and 24 escalators. Once in operation, it will be one of the most modern on the network, as it is planned to renovate the architectural finishes and incorporate all the technological advances, such as the 4.0 entry turnstiles and the latest generation ticket vending machines, which will improve the quality of the service and passenger experience.
Metro de Madrid is planning this project together with Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, with whom it signed a protocol to coordinate these works with the other actions and infrastructures in the area. In 2024, Santiago Bernabéu had more than four million admissions, with more than 34,000 users on certain days. This stop, next to the Paseo de la Castellana in the Spanish capital, has had a close relationship with the stadium of the white team since its origins. It was inaugurated in 1982 under the name of Lima and in 1998 it was renamed with its current nomenclature.
